Quiz questions with a purpose
If you are looking for team building quiz ideas for a specific purpose, have a look at the examples below. Feel free to adjust or create your own.
The Who Quiz (not the band)
Look around you (or on your screen). Who is the person behind each of the following scenarios?
Example questions:
- Who could be a rockstar? (What songs? Which decade?)
- Who would travel around the world on a boat?
- Who would you buy a fancy car for?
- Who is more likely to sell everything and move to the mountains?
- Whom would you trust with Christmas dinner preparations?
- Who do you think knows everybody’s secrets?
- Who always speaks first in meetings?
- Who never takes a day off?
- Who wears the coolest shoes?
Guess the Quote
An all-time favorite. You could keep it random or choose words of encouragement or positive thinking if you need it. Don’t we all. Here are a few examples.
Who said:
- Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life (Confucius)
- The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. (Lao Tzu)
- That which does not kill us makes us stronger. (Friedrich Nietzsche, sadly not Kelly Clarkson)
- People are just as happy as they make up their minds to be. (Abraham Lincoln)
- All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy (This is an orphan one from 1659, but at Gomada we love it and stand by it at all costs)
Complete the sentence
This is an open-ended game that allows for various answers—ideal for setting up expectations, understanding communication patterns, and decision-making. The world has changed, and supporting emotions at work makes for a more productive environment. Let’s do it!
Complete the following sentences:
- I feel my team appreciates me when…
- I like working from home because…
- I miss the office because…
- I feel valued when…
- I sometimes get disappointed if…
- I liked it when (name of team member) helped me with…
- Sometimes I hesitate to ask for help because…
Try to always nurture an environment of safe communication among team members with both fun and serious quiz questions and enhance team building and bonding no matter where your people are based.
What to consider when planning a quiz for team building
Team building quizzes should be inclusive. You should consider your team members’
- background
- culture
- any subject matter you know might upset them
When choosing the right quiz questions, avoid taboo issues like politics and religion. Your team’s average age could also determine the quiz content. For example, if your team’s average age is 30, they might not know Milli Vanilli didn’t actually sing their songs. Milli Vanilli sounds more like an ice cream flavor if you’re born after 1990.
How to organize a fun team building quiz
There are many combinations you can try. Here are a few ideas:
- Stick to a topic
- Mix & Match
- Divide the team into groups and get them to produce their own questions
The mode of delivery and time is also to be decided. Will you:
- set a strict timer?
- get the teams to type in the answers or shout out?
- have a quiz every week or at every meeting?
You can set up your own quiz from scratch or get started right away with pre-built activities.
Set a prize for the winners
A team building quiz doesn’t have to stop at the final score. At Gomada, we make time for virtual team building trivia questions every week, and we keep a monthly score. Adults are as eager as children to win, so why not go the extra mile and celebrate achievement? Here are a few ideas:
You could say: Listen up, everybody. At the end of the month, the person/pair with the highest score will get a weekly voucher for their morning coffee, free movie tickets for two, or a red Mustang. Maybe less excitement and more budgeting here, but you get the picture.
Dedicate some time at the end of the month, during your Veertly or Zoom meeting, or any other online platform you use. Create a virtual hall of fame, or simply write it on your board if you are at the office. Integrate the quiz into other activities like a virtual game show, or trivia challenge. It might become a huge thing, and you can turn it into a virtual event once or twice a year for the whole company to indulge. Dream big, that’s all we say.
